Kyrgios set to return to ATP Tour at Brisbane International 2025

The Aussie hasn’t played professional tennis since June 2023 due to injuries and will make his comeback at the ATP 250 event in Brisbane

Australian tennis sensation Nick Kyrgios has been confirmed to make his ATP Tour return in December 2024 after a 17-month-long hiatus due to multiple injuries. Kyrgios will start his comeback at the 2025 Brisbane International, an ATP 250 event that will begin on December 29, as a wildcard.

The tournament organisers announced Kyrgios, their 2018 champion, as one of the contenders for the singles titles on Thursday, November 14.

The 29-year-old hasn’t competed on the professional tour since losing a Round-of-32 battle to China’s Wu Yibing in Stuttgart.

Initially, he was sidelined due to injuries on his wrist and knee but later turned to commentating roles for media houses and covered several tennis events, including the 2024 Australian Open. Prior to the Brisbane International announcement, the Aussie held a chat with 9News, expressing his excitement for the second leg of his career:

“Honestly, this is probably the best I’ve felt in two years,” Kyrgios said. “I played that amazing year in 2022. Then at the finals in Wimbledon and US Open that’s when I started feeling some issues in my wrist. I had that wrist reconstruction and now I’m feeling amazing.

“It was a 15 miracle percent chance that I was going to get back to playing at this level and here we are. To get back out there in front of the home fans is going to be sick.”

Kyrgios has already declared to hunt for a Grand Slam title on his return but his 2025 Australian Open participation isn’t confirmed as of now. He hasn’t played a Grand Slam match after losing to Russian Karen Khachanov in the 2022 US Open quarter-finals.
