Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis underwent surgery for a nagging pectoral injury on Thursday (February 27).

Kokkinakis’ last appearance on the court ended prematurely when he decided to quit his first-round match alongside Nick Kyrgios midway at the Australian Open doubles in January this year. The retirement came a day following his gruelling five-setter against Britain’s Jack Draper (6-7 (3), 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3) in the second round of singles competition. The effort worsened the Aussie’s affected muscles.

“Been struggling for a little while with this,” Kokkinakis wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Probably my toughest challenge to date. Trying to find answers to a ongoing Pec injury that I haven’t been able to fix. Let’s see how this goes. Thank you for all your ongoing support.”

A regular face on the UTS Tour, the world No 84 was forced to pull out of the Guadalajara tournament due to the same injury.
