Japan Open: Machac beats Popyrin to move into second round

Tomas Machac edged out Australian Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-5 to advance to the second round of the Japan Open at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Thursday.
Machac, ranked No 34, will face American Tommy Paul, the No 5 seed, next.
