Italian qualifier Fabio Fognini edged out Serb Laslo Djere, the top seed, 7-6 (1), 2-6, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Marrakech Open at Royal Tennis Club de Marrakech on Wednesday evening.
Fognini, ranked No 100, will face Russian Pavel Kotov next.
In the previous round of the Marrakech tournament, the 36-year-old Italian edged out Frenchman Hugo Gaston (6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-4).
