Citi Open: Shevchenko upsets Korda to reach second round
The Russian will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Gregoire Barrere and No 9 seed Daniel Evans in the next round
Russian Alexander Shevchenko advanced to the last 16 of the Citi Open by edging out American Sebastian Korda, the No 8 seed, in three sets on Tuesday in Washington DC.
Shevchenko came from a set down to win 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-4 at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center to score his first top 30 win.

This was Shevchenko’s fourth top 50 win of the season in what was his eight ATP level victory.
The Russian, ranked No 93, will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Gregoire Barrere and No 9 seed Dan Evans next.
The 22-year-old Shevchenko won against American Maxime Cressy (6-3, 7-6 (8)) in the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament.
