Cerundolo survives altitude-specialist Hanfmann to make Chile Open quarter-finals

Francisco Cerundolo edged out Yannick Hanfmann 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (5) on Wednesday and will face the winner of the match between Chilean wildcard Cristian Garin and Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 5 seed, in the next round

Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the top seed, edged out German Yannick Hanfmann 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (5) to advance to the last eight of the Chile Open at the Club Universidad Católica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago de Chile on Wednesday.

Cerundolo, ranked No 26, will play the winner of the match between Chilean wildcard Cristian Garin and Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 5 seed, next.

Hanfmann, ranked No 109, won against Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta (7-5, 6-3) in the previous round of the Santiago tournament.
