ATP Rankings: Djokovic remains on top, Sinner, Mannarino make big gains

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic remained at the top of the latest ATP rankings released with the 24-time Grand Slam champion begins his 393rd week as world No 1. With the China Open and Astana Open getting over mid-week, the ATP Tour held off publication of the rankings for the week of October 2, 2023 until after those tournaments were over.

Djokovic is followed by Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, semi-finalist in Beijing where he lost to Jannik Sinner, and Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, who lost in the Beijing final to Sinner. The Italian jumps up three spots to a new career-high ranking of No 4 after winning his ninth singles title on the tour.

With Sinner’s rise, Holger Rune, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev drop one spot each to No 5, No 6 and No 7 respectively. Casper Ruud, Taylor Fritz and Alexander Zverev hold on to their top 10 positions at No 8, No 9 and No 10 respectively.

De Minaur and Tommy Paul reach new career highs just outside the top 10

Just outside the top 10, there are new career-highs for Australia’s Alex de Minaur, up one spot to No 11, and American Tommy Paul, up a notch to No 12. Nicolas Jarry moves up one spot to No 22, equalling his career best ranking which he first achieved last month. The Chilean is enjoying a resurgence at the age of 27, climbing from No 152 at the start of 2023.

French veteran Adrian Mannarino, who won his second title of the year in Astana this week, jumps up 11 spots to No 23, one notch below his career peak of No 22, which he reached in 2018. Astana runner-up Sebastian Korda climbs two spots to No 26, one spot below his peak of No 25.

Elsewhere, 22-year-old Italian Matteo Arnaldi moves up six positions to a new peak of No 42; 27-year-old Austrian Sebastian Ofner moves up nine notches to a peak of No 49; and former US Open champion Dominic Thiem, also from Austria, climbs nine spots to No 72 – his highest ranking since April 2022.
