Sensational Sinner seals title in Antwerp
The Italian did not drop a set all week en route to lifting the trophy
Jannik Sinner completed a perfect week at the European Open in Antwerp as he defeated Diego Schwartzman in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in just one hour and 16 minutes to lift the crown.
Aged 20, he is the youngest player to win the fifth ATP title of his career since a 19-year-old Novak Djokovic did it in Estoril 14 years ago.
It is also his fourth ATP title of the year, joining Casper Ruud, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev on that particular benchmark.
It is a venue that holds fond memories for him; two years ago, he reached his first-ever ATP Tour quarter-final and then semi-final at the tournament as a wildcard, ranked world No 119 at the time.
Today’s performance was a particularly impressive one, saving the only two break points he faced and losing just two points on his first serve, plus breaking his Argentinian opponent four times.
