ATP rankings: Medvedev back to No 1, Djokovic slips to No 3

Daniil Medvedev will begin a fourth week at the top of the ATP rankings and Novak Djokovic will drop outside of the top-2 for the first time since October of 2018, due to the fact that last year’s Roland-Garros points have come off as of Monday June 13.

As a result, Alexander Zverev skips past Djokovic as well, the German rising to a career-high No 2.

It means that there will be no Big 3 presence in the ATP’s top-2 for the first time since 2003.

Djokovic four behind Graf

Djokovic’s 12-week streak at the top of the rankings ends, leaving him four weeks shy of the all-time record for weeks at No 1 across both tours. Steffi Graf held the WTA’s No.1 ranking for a period of 377 weeks.

Djokovic has 373 weeks at No 1 under his belt.

Medvedev will begin his fourth week as the ATP’s No.1. The Russian became the ATP’s 27th world No.1 on February 28, and held the top spot for three weeks before giving it back to Djokovic on March 21.

Ruud rising

Norway’s Casper Ruud continues his rise up the rankings. After reaching a career high No 6 last week, he makes his top-5 debut, coming in at No 5. The 23-year-old is just 105 points clear of Stefanos Tsitsipas, who drops to No 6.

He is the first Norwegian to ever hold a top-5 ranking.

99 feeling fine

Tim Van Rijthoven of the Netherlands stormed the Libema Open last week, winning his maiden title by defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals and finals. Today the Dutchman reaps the rewards with a 99-point rise from 205 to 106 in the rankings.

The 25-year-old is the third-ranked Dutchman on the ATP Tour. Remarkably, he had never won an ATP main draw match prior to last week.

Murray back in top-50

It’s starting to feel like old times for Andy Murray. After finally breaking into the top-100 for the first time since 2018 earlier this season, the Scot is now back in the top-50. He’ll begin next week at No.47 – his highest ranking since May 28, 2018 – thanks to his runner-up performance at Stuttgart.

New career-highs for Nakashima, Baez and Brooksby

A pair of Americans continue to climb the rankings, as Jenson Brooksby and Brandon Nakashima each inched up to career-high rankings.
