Australian Open champ Keys moves into Miami third round

American Madison Keys, the No 5 seed, defeated Armenian Elina Avanesyan 6-3, 6-3 to move into the third round of the Miami Open at the Hard Rock Stadium on Friday.

Keys, ranked No 5 in the world and winner of the Australian Open in January, will face Filipino wildcard Alexandra Eala next.

The win also marked her 98th WTA 1000-level win, putting her third on the list of American women for most WTA 1000 match wins behind the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus.

In the previous round of the tournament, Avanesyan, ranked No 36, edged out Russian wildcard Erika Andreeva (6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-4).
