Alert – Indian Wells WTA 1000: Andreeva wins the trophy
Mirra Andreeva won the final on Sunday against Aryna Sabalenka
Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 9 seed, defeated Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 to win the Indian Wells WTA 1000 trophy in California on Sunday.
Andreeva, ranked No 11, beat Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva (7-5, 6-4), Dane Clara Tauson, the No 22 seed (6-3, 6-0), Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 7 seed (6-1, 6-2), Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 23 seed (7-5, 6-3) and Pole Iga Swiatek, the second seed (7-6 (1), 1-6, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Indian Wells tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Sabalenka, ranked No 1, beat American McCartney Kessler (7-6 (4), 6-3), Italian Lucia Bronzetti (6-1, 6-2), lucky loser Sonay Kartal (6-1, 6-2), Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 24 seed (6-2, 6-3) and American Madison Keys, the No 5 seed (6-0, 6-1).
