“I just kind of feel their energy” – Andreeva feeding off the crowd after Rybakina victory
The Russian is looking to further extend her nine-match winning streak
Mirra Andreeva continued her sensational form on Tuesday by knocking out Elena Rybakina 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth-round of Indian Wells.
The 18-year-old is on a nine-match winning streak after claiming her maiden WTA 1000 title in Dubai – the youngest-ever woman to lift such a singles trophy.
“Yeah, today was a great match,” said the Russian, ins her post-match press conference. “I knew that it’s going to be tough, but I just try to go on court and do my best, so I’m just super happy with my win today and can’t wait to play my next round here.”
Andreeva had plenty of crowd support on Court 2 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, something which the young superstar noted upon:
“Yeah, I don’t know why people are supporting me this much, because honestly, when I was playing in U.S., my results were not great. You know, last year here I lost in the first round. At the US Open, twice I lost in the second round. So I don’t know why people are supporting a lot for me, but no, it feels great.
“Yeah, they stayed until the end of our match, and they were still supporting tonight, as well. It’s pretty late and it’s pretty cold outside, so, you know, for me, it feels amazing because I know that sometimes when you play a late match, people, you know, they don’t really want to stay and watch the match when it’s cold and late outside.
“I don’t know why, but I have a lot of people that are supporting me, and I don’t know, something about United States is people are so energetic, and when I play a match and some people are supporting me, I just kind of feel their energy. It kind of lights me up a little.”

The Dubai champion’s quarterfinal match will take place on Thursday, giving the world No 11 a full day of rest – something which she may not need after a 63-minute demolition:
“If you would ask me this question a couple of months ago, I would say yes, but now I’m good. Now I’m happy that there are tournaments that last two weeks (smiling). It’s nice to have a day off in between matches, because, for example now it’s pretty late.
“You know, I would be going home. It would be, I don’t know, midnight maybe, and then it would take some time to go to sleep. Yeah, now I would say it’s nice to have a day off to really take my time, to come back, to practice, and then to do massage, recovery, and then to go back to the hotel, not rush, chill, relax.”
Andreeva will face Elina Svitolina in her next match, with the two having never met before. The Ukrainian battled from a set down to beat fourth seed Jessica Pegula in her fourth-round encounter.
