Indian Wells Masters: Rune battles past Humbert to reach fourth round

Denmark’s Holger Rune, the No 12 seed, edged out Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 18 seed, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the last 16 of the Indian Wells Masters on Sunday.

The Dane came from a break down in the decider to score his first top 20 win of the 2025 season.

This was Rune’s fourth win in as many meetings (including his second at Indian Wells) over his French rival.

Rune, ranked No 13, will play Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 8 seed, next. He has a 3-0 lead in the head-to-head between the two players.

The 21-year-old Dane won against Frenchman Corentin Moutet (6-2, 6-4) in the previous round of the Indian Wells Tennis Masters.

In the previous round of the Indian Wells Tennis Masters, Humbert, ranked No 19, defeated Japanese Kei Nishikori (6-4, 6-3).
