WTA Indian Wells: Pegula books spot in last 16
The American will play Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 23 seed, in the next round
American Jessica Pegula, the No 4 seed, moved into the last 16 of the BNP Paribas Open by beating Chinese Xinyu Wang 6-2, 6-1 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Sunday.
Pegula, ranked No 4 in the world, will play Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 23 seed, next. This was the sixth win in a row for the American, who won the title in Austin earlier this month.
Ahead of her win today, the American won against Pole Magda Linette (6-4, 6-2).
Wang, ranked No 42, defeated Egyptian Mayar Sherif (6-4, 7-5) and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 26 seed (6-4, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the tournament.
