Indian Wells Masters: Giron upsets Popyrin to reach last 16

American Marcos Giron won against Australian Alexei Popyrin, the No 26 seed, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 to move into the last 16 of the Indian Wells Masters on Sunday.

Giron, ranked No 48, will play Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 20 seed, in the next round.

In the previous rounds, the American defeated Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili (7-5, 7-6 (3)) and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 4 seed (7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-2).

Popyrin, ranked No 27, beat Belgian Zizou Bergs (7-6 (4), 7-5) earlier in the week.
