Tsitsipas sets up Berrettini battle in Indian Wells Masters third round

Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 8 seed, advanced to the third round of the Indian Wells Masters by winning against Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-2, 6-4 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Friday.

The match lasted for an hour, 28 minutes, with the final game interestingly consuming 20 minutes as Tsitsipas and Seyboth Wild played 23 points. The Brazilian saved a total of five match points on serve before the Greek eventually converted the sixth.

“One thing I felt like was completely different here were the balls,” Tsitsipas said after the win. “In Dubai the balls are much heavier. The balls here are slightly softer and have much more air movement than the ones in Dubai. Also the surface here is rougher on the top layer. Makes the balls bounce a bit more and not skid through the court as much. I just feel like playing an aggressive top spin game might help here. I’m trying to pull that off on the court.”

Tsitsipas, ranked No 9, will face Italian Matteo Berrettini, the No 28 seed, next. He has faced Berrettini five times on the court thus far and leads the head-to-head 4-1.

Seyboth Wild, ranked No 91, edged out Frenchman Alexandre Muller (4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (6)) in the previous round of the Indian Wells Tennis Masters.
