Tsitsipas on return to top 10: “These are the things we are fighting for”
Stefanos Tsitsipas will be up to No 9 in the world when the new ATP rankings come out on Monday after capturing his first-ever 500-point title in Dubai on Saturday.
Stefanos Tsitsipas will be back in the top 10 when the new ATP rankings are released on Monday.
Tsitsipas clinched his place by beating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 6-3 in the final of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Saturday evening. It was the 26-year-old’s first title since last spring at the Monte-Carlo Masters and his first ever at the ATP 500 level. He had previously been a hard-to-believe 0-11 in 500 finals.
Currently 11th in the world, Tsitsipas will climb to No 9. His career-high ranking is No 3, which he achieved in August of 2021.
The Greek has not been in the top 10 since May of 2024.
To be owning a spot in the top 10 is definitely one of the greatest feelings a tennis player can experience.
“These are the things we are fighting for as professional tennis players,” Tsitsipas said of securing his place in the top 10 after defeating Auger-Aliassime. “To be owning a spot in the top 10 is definitely one of the greatest feelings a tennis player can experience. It comes with hard work and sacrifices, but I’m happy that I’m in a position where I can really celebrate.”
Before defending 1000 points in Monte-Carlo, Tsitsipas has a chance to make additional headway up the rankings in Indian Wells and Miami. In 2024, the former Roland-Garros and Australian Open runner-up lost in the Indian Wells fourth round and in the Miami second round.
