Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina moved into the last 8 of the Mexican Open by beating American Frances Tiafoe, the No 7 seed, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 at the Arena GNP Seguros in Acapulco on Thursday.

Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 48, will face Mexican wildcard Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez next.

The Spaniard won against Italian lucky loser Mattia Bellucci (1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the Acapulco tournament, Tiafoe, ranked No 18, won against Frenchman Alexandre Muller (6-4, 6-2).
