Mexican Open: Goffin upsets Shelton in Acapulco

Belgian David Goffin beat American Ben Shelton, the No 5 seed, 7-6 (3), 6-3 to advance to the last eight of the Mexican Open at the Arena GNP Seguros in Acapulco on Wednesday night.

Goffin, ranked No 63, will face the winner of the match between Dane Holger Rune, the No 4 seed, and American Brandon Nakashima next.

The 34-year-old Belgian won against Australian Rinky Hijikata (6-2, 6-3) in the previous round of the Acapulco tournament.

In the previous round of the Acapulco tournament, Shelton, ranked No 14, won against Italian Flavio Cobolli (7-6 (4), 7-6 (4)).
