Mexican Open: Surging Shapovalov beats Basavareddy to book spot in second round

Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 9 seed, won against American qualifier Nishesh Basavareddy 7-5, 6-2 to move into the second round of the Mexican Open at the Arena GNP Seguros in Acapulco.

Shapovalov, ranked No 32, will face the winner of the match between American Alex Michelsen and Chinese wildcard Yunchaokete Bu next.
