Santiago: Ugo Carabelli outlasts Jarry in third-set tiebreak

Camilo Ugo Carabelli scraped past Nicolas Jarry in a three-set battle on Tuesday in Santiago. Thiago Monteiro is next up for Ugo Carabelli.

Camilo Ugo Carabelli silenced the home crowd and moved into the second round of the Chile Open by overcoming Chile’s Nicolas Jarry, the No 7 seed, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (9) at the Club Universidad Católica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago de Chile on Tuesday evening.

The Argentine saved a break point at 3-4 in the third set, saved a match point at 4-5 and fought off two more match points in the tiebreak. He prevailed after two hours and 53 minutes.

Ugo Carabelli, ranked No 69, will next face Brazilian Thiago Monteiro.
