Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 12 seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Dubai Open by defeating Pole Iga Swiatek, the second seed, 6-3, 6-3 at The Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Thursday.

Andreeva, ranked No 14, will face the winner of the match between Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 6 seed, and American wildcard Sofia Kenin next.

She will be the youngest-ever woman to reach the last four in Dubai, at the age of 17.

Their previous meeting was in the 2024 Cincinnati quarter-finals, where the Pole came back from a set down to win. This time, Andreeva would not be denied.

“Last time we played was a close match and it was tough, it was intense,” Andreeva said, quoted by the WTA. “This time I just tried to tell myself to go for my shots, to be aggressive, to not hesitate. I think that helped me to win in a way.”

The 17-year-old Russian won against Armenian Elina Avanesyan (6-2, 6-1), Marketa Vondrousova (7-5, 6-0) and American Peyton Stearns (6-1, 6-1) ahead of her victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Swiatek, ranked No 2, won against Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (6-0, 6-2) and Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (7-5, 6-0).
