Swiatek bagels Yastremaska to reach Dubai Open quarter-finals
Iga Swiatek beat Dayana Yastremska 7-5, 6-0 on Wednesday and will play the winner of the match between Peyton Stearns and Mirra Andreeva next
Pole Iga Swiatek, the second seed, won against Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska 7-5, 6-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the Dubai Open at The Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Wednesday.
Swiatek needed 92 minutes to finish Yastremska’s resistance, with the latter saving two match points but the former converting the third to advance.
The Pole had her serve broken twice but she converted six break points on the back of a 62 percent average on the second-serve return.
Swiatek, ranked No 2, will play the winner of the match between American Peyton Stearns and Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 12 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Dubai tournament, the Pole defeated Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (6-0, 6-2).
Yastremska, ranked No 48, beat Pole Magda Linette (6-3, 7-5) and Russian Anastasia Potapova (6-2, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Dubai tournament.
