Noskova ousts Pegula to move into Dubai Open quarter-finals
Linda Noskova beat Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-6 (8) on Wednesday and will face the winner of the match between Aryna Sabalenka and Clara Tauson next
Linda Noskova advanced to the quarter-finals of the Dubai Open by beating American Jessica Pegula, the No 5 seed, 6-3, 7-6 (8) at The Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Wednesday.
Noskova and Pegula’s extended beyond the 90-minute mark, with the second set witnessing an intense battle where the latter created two set points and saved a match point but the Czech player cashed in on second.
This notably was Noskova’s eighth top 10 win and she earned it by hitting eight aces and breaking Pegula’s serve thrice.
Noskova, ranked No 35, will face the winner of the match between Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, and Dane Clara Tauson next.
In the previous rounds of the Dubai tournament, Linda Noskova won against Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (6-2, 7-6 (5)) and Russian Diana Shnaider, the No 11 seed (7-6 (8), 4-6, 6-3).
Pegula, ranked No 5, defeated Russian Liudmila Samsonova (6-0, 6-4) in the previous round of the Dubai tournament.
