Jarry overcomes Cerundolo in Rio de Janeiro first round

Nicolas Jarry battled past Juan Manuel Cerundolo in three sets on Monday in Rio de Janeiro. Jarry is looking to bounce back from an opening loss in Buenos Aires to Diego Schwartzman.

Nicolas Jarry, the No 6 seed, edged out Argentine qualifier Juan Manuel Cerundolo 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the Rio Open at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Monday evening.

The Chilean fired 12 aces and was broken only twice over the course of two hours and 26 minutes.

Jarry, ranked No 47, will next face the winner of the match between Brazilian wild card Gustavo Heide and Argentina’s Francisco Comesana.
