Italy’s Jannik Sinner overtook Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in terms of weeks spent as world No 1 on Monday (February 17). Brazil’s Joao Fonseca, on the other hand, reached a career-high ranking of world No 68 following his triumph at the 2025 Argentina Open.

Saturday brought Sinner a three-month suspension from WADA in the 2024 Indian Wells doping scandal but the Italian had something to cheer about on Monday as he replaced his rival Carlos Alcaraz in the all-time ATP list of most weeks spent as world No 1.

He recorded his 37th week as the top-ranked man to rank 16th on the list, one above the Spaniard who now stands 17th with 36 weeks.

Fonseca clinched his first tour-level title on Sunday as he overcame home-favorite Francisco Cerundolo (6-4, 7-6 (1)) in the Buenos Aires final. The win propelled him to the 68th spot in the updated ATP singles ranking, up 31 places from world No 99.
