Australian Taylah Preston edged out Mexican wildcard Victoria Rodriguez 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to advance to the last 16 of the Cancun Tennis Open on Tuesday.
Preston, ranked No 160, will play Belarusian Iryna Shymanovich next.
