Qatar Open: Kasatkina reaches last 16

Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 10 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Qatar Open by winning against Armenian Elina Avanesyan 6-2, 6-3 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Tuesday evening.

Kasatkina, ranked No 12, will face American Jessica Pegula, the No 6 seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the Russian beat lucky loser Polina Kudermetova (6-0, 6-0).

Avanesyan, ranked No 48, edged out Chinese Xinyu Wang (7-6 (3), 1-6, 7-6 (5)) in the previous round of the Qatar tournament.
