Sawangkaew upsets Marino in Mumbai to reach first WTA final
Mananchaya Sawangkaew defeated Rebecca Marino 6-2, 6-2 on Saturday and will face the winner of the match between Swiss Jil Teichmann, the No 5 seed, and Indian qualifier Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi for the title
Thai Mananchaya Sawangkaew, the No 8 seed, beat Canadian Rebecca Marino, the second seed, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the final of the L & T Mumbai Open on Saturday.
Sawangkaew, ranked No 121, will face the winner of the match between Swiss Jil Teichmann, the No 5 seed, and Indian qualifier Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi next.
Ahead of her victory, the 22-year-old Thai won against Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic (6-3, 6-1), Linda Fruhvirtova (4-6, 6-2, 6-0) and Lanlana Tararudee (7-5, 3-6, 6-2).
Marino, ranked No 103, won against Sara Bejlek (6-0, 6-2), Indian wildcard Ankita Raina (7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (5)) and Japanese Mai Hontama (6-3, 6-4) in the previous rounds.
