Japanese Mai Hontama beat Filipino Alexandra Eala 7-6 (5), 6-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of the L & T Mumbai Open on Wednesday.
Hontama, ranked No 166, will play the winner of the match between Indian wildcard Ankita Raina and Canadian Rebecca Marino, the second seed, next.
The Japanese won against No 6 seed Nao Hibino (7-6 (4), 6-2) in the previous round.
During the 32, Eala, ranked No 137, won against Japanese Sara Saito (6-1, 6-0).
