Montpellier Open: Rublev books spot in quarter-finals via solid performance against Eubanks

Russian Andrey Rublev, the top seed, won against American Christopher Eubanks 6-4, 6-3 to move into the quarter-finals of the Montpellier Open at the Sud de France Arena on Wednesday.

Rublev captured the crucial break at 2-2, before serving out the set after saving three break points in the final game, 6-4.

The second set would follow a similar fashion, the Russian broke the American’s serve-at-love at 2-2, going on to break again to clinch the win 6-3 in the second.

The standout statistic from the match was the Russian’s 89 percent success rate on his first service points, rushing Eubanks’ serve on the slick surface.

Rublev, ranked No 10, will face the winner of the match between Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili and Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, the No 7 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Montpellier tournament, Eubanks, ranked No 111, beat Russian qualifier Alibek Kachmazov (7-5, 6-4).
