American Madison Keys staged a comeback effort against Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina on Wednesday, January 22, to qualify for the 2025 Australian Open women’s singles semi-finals. Keys defeated Svitolina 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at Melbourne Park’s Rod Laver Arena in the quarter-finals.
Keys did it on the back of six aces, 49 winners, and two break-point conversions on Svitolina’s serve in an hour, 54 minutes.
The result meant the No. 19 seed matched her previous best showings in 2015 and 2022 at the Melbourne Major and is now on a 10-match unbeaten streak.
In the semi-finals, Keys will face the winner of the quarter-final clash between World No. 2 Iga Swiatek and American Emma Navarro.
In the previous rounds, she defeated Ann Li (6-4, 7-5), Elena-Gabriela Ruse (7-6(1), 2-6, 7-5), Danielle Collins (6-4, 6-4), and Elena Rybakina (6-3, 1-6, 6-3).
