Australian Open: Impressive Shelton too good for Musetti, moves into last 16

American Ben Shelton, the No 21 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Australian Open by edging out Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 16 seed, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) at Melbourne Park.

Shelton, ranked No 20, will face Frenchman Gael Monfils next.

Ahead of his victory, the 22-year-old American beat Brandon Nakashima (7-6 (3), 7-5, 7-5) and edged out Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta (6-3, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-4).

Musetti, ranked No 15, won against Matteo Arnaldi (7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3) and Canadian Denis Shapovalov (7-6 (3), 7-6 (6), 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
