Swiatek overwhelms Raducanu to reach Australian Open last 16
Iga Swiatek defeated Emma Raducanu 6-1, 6-0 on Saturday night. She’ll play the winner of the match between German lucky loser Eva Lys and Romanian Jaqueline Cristian in the next round
No 2 seed Iga Swiatek produced her best performance of the opening week as she dominated Britain’s Emma Raducanu 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the last 16 of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Saturday.
Swiatek hit 24 winners and didn’t face a break point on her serve as she raced through to a clash with the winner of the match between German lucky loser Eva Lys and Romanian Jaqueline Cristian.
“Really great, I felt very confident.” Swiatek said, assessing her performance. “I hit some shots I was like, oh, that’s what I practice for. That’s why at the end I could go for even more.
“From the beginning I felt like I was playing well and my hand was fast. I’m really happy with the way I played.”
The Pole won against Katerina Siniakova (6-3, 6-4) and Slovak Rebecca Sramkova (6-0, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
Raducanu, ranked No 61, won against Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 26 seed (7-6 (4), 7-6 (2)) and American Amanda Anisimova (6-3, 7-5) in her first two matches.
