Australian Open: Pavlyuchenkova books spot in last 16
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova beat Laura Siegemund 6-1, 6-2 on Friday and will play the winner of the match between Russian Diana Shnaider, the No 12 seed, and Croat Donna Vekic, the No 18 seed, in the next round
Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 27 seed, reached the last 16 of the Australian Open by winning against German Laura Siegemund 6-1, 6-2 at Melbourne Park on Friday.
Pavlyuchenkova, ranked No 32, will face the winner of the match between Russian Diana Shnaider, the No 12 seed, and Croat Donna Vekic, the No 18 seed, next.
The 33-year-old Russian defeated Chinese Yue Yuan (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) and Anastasia Potapova (7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2025 season, Siegemund, ranked No 97, edged out American Hailey Baptiste (4-6, 7-5, 6-4) and beat Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 5 seed (7-6 (3), 6-3).
