Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina moved into the third round of the Australian Open by overhauling Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 29 seed, 6-7 (7), 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 at Melbourne Park.
The match ran into the early hours of the morning, finishing at 1.15am.
Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 66, will play Jakub Mensik next.
In the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025, the Spaniard benefited from the abandonment of Chinese Juncheng Shang (7-6 (1), 5-2).
Auger-Aliassime, ranked No 23, won against German Jan-Lennard Struff (6-3, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1) in the first round of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025.
