American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed, beat Japanese Kei Nishikori 6-7 (3), 6-0, 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the third round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.
Paul, ranked No 11, will play Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena next.
Ahead of his victory, the American won against Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 7-5).
Nishikori, ranked No 76, pulled off a miraculous comeback to beat Brazilian qualifier Thiago Monteiro (4-6, 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-2, 6-3) in the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025.
