Australian Open: Kostyuk reaches third round

Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 17 seed, advanced to the third round of the Australian Open by beating German Jule Niemeier 6-3, 6-0 at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.
Kostyuk, ranked No 18, will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 11 seed, and Australian wildcard Talia Gibson next.
The 22-year-old Ukrainian won against Japanese qualifier Nao Hibino (3-6, 6-3, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2025 season, Niemeier, ranked No 93, won against Pole qualifier Maja Chwalinska (6-0, 6-1).
