Australian Open: Ruud outlasts Munar to make second round

Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 6 seed, won against Spaniard Jaume Munar 6-3, 1-6, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 to move into the second round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Sunday.

Ruud has now won his last four five-set matches in a row, including at last year’s Australian Open in the second round.

“We practice a lot together,” Ruud said of the three-hour, 21-minute match. “When you know someone quite well it can be tricky, he knows my game, I know his game. I told him at the net that I got a bit lucky at the end there.”

Ruud, ranked No 6, will face the winner of the match between Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili and Jakub Mensik next.
