ATP Auckland: Zizou Bergs through to first final, faces Monfils for title
The Belgian qualfiier edged out Nuno Borges 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 in the semi-finals on Friday
Belgian qualifier Zizou Bergs advanced to the final of the ASB Classic by edging out Portuguese Nuno Borges, the No 7 seed, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 in Auckland on Friday.
Moving into his first ATP singles final, Bergs, ranked No 66, will face Frenchman Gael Monfils next.
Ahead of his win today, the Belgian defeated New Zealander wildcard Isaac Becroft (6-3, 7-5), Italian qualifier Luca Nardi (6-1, 6-4) and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena (1-6, 6-2, 6-3).
Borges, ranked No 36, won against Italian Luciano Darderi (5-7, 6-3, 7-5), Argentinian Mariano Navone (4-6, 7-5, 6-4) and Jakub Mensik (6-7 (4), 6-2, 7-6 (4)) in the previous rounds of the tournament.
