Russian Liudmila Samsonova moved into the quarter-finals of the WTA Adelaide International by edging out Swiss qualifier Belinda Bencic 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-4 at the Memorial Drive Tennis Park on Wednesday.
Samsonova, ranked No 26, will play American Emma Navarro, the second seed, next.
Ahead of her win today, the Russian beat qualifier Marie Bouzkova (1-6, 6-4, 6-1).
Bencic, ranked No 421, benefited from the retirement of Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 7 seed (6-2, 1-0) earlier in the week.
