ATP Adelaide: Giron beats Shapovalov to move into quarter-finals
The American will face the winner of the match between Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 5 seed, and Frenchman Arthur Cazaux in the next round
American Marcos Giron moved into the last eight of the Adelaide International by winning against Canadian Denis Shapovalov 7-5, 6-2 at the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre on Wednesday.
Giron, ranked No 45, will play the winner of the match between Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 5 seed, and Frenchman Arthur Cazaux next.
Ahead of his win today, the American defeated Australian Aleksandar Vukic (6-2, 3-6, 6-3).
Shapovalov, ranked No 58, beat Chinese Zhizhen Zhang, the No 9 seed (6-3, 6-4) in the previous round of the tournament.
