Gauff topples Swiatek, Fritz downs Hurkacz to win United Cup 2025 for US

The Americans defeated Poland 2-0 in the final on Sunday to win their second United Cup trophy

The US lifted the 2025 United Cup trophy on the back of Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz‘s heroics against Poland in the final at Ken Rosewall Arena on Sunday (January 5).

The result marked a second title for the Americans at the United Cup whereas a second runner-up finish for the Polish side that lost to Germany in the final last year.

The US remained undefeated in the mixed-doubles event, downing Canada and Croatia in the round-robin stage, China in the quarter-finals, and Czechia in the semi-finals. They previously won the tournament in 2023 by downing Italy (4-0) in the final tie.

Gauff takes down Swiatek

Gauff gave her side the desired start as she toppled Poland’s Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-4 in the opening women’s singles battle.

The world No 3 did it in an hour, 49 minutes on the back of four aces, five break-point conversions and an average of 74 percent on first-serve points.

“I have the belief that I’m one of the best players in the world and when I play good tennis I’m hard to beat,” Gauff said, having won against Swiatek only the third time in 14 duels. “Today I think I played some great tennis. I’m glad I was able to get a point for Team USA. It was tough today, I’m not gonna lie.”

Fritz survives the Hurkacz test

Fritz faced a quality opposition in Hubert Hurkacz, tasked to keep Poland alive in the final.

The American put his side on the brink of a victory by taking the first set but Hurkacz fought back in the second to draw the proceedings, producing a break to love in the 12th game.

In the decider, no player managed to convert a break point, thus, forcing a tiebreak, where Fritz eventually prevailed after his opponent saved a match point to complete a 2-0 win for the US.
