American Alex Michelsen remained unbeaten at the Next Gen ATP Finals as his opponent Juncheng Shang retired during the second set of their group clash in Jeddah on Friday.

Michelsen was leading Shang 4-1, 1-1 when the Chinese player pulled out due to illness. With this, the American improved to 3-0 in group play; a stark contrast from last year when he lost all his three group stage matches.

“I feel pretty good. It feels good to be 3-0,” said Michelsen as quoted by the ATP Tour. “Obviously, I wish Jerry could have played today, but I knew he was a little sick yesterday, so it’s just unfortunate timing for him, he’s a great player. I’m just super happy to be through.”
