Retired Austrian tennis player Jurgen Melzer believes that even someone as accomplished as 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic can still learn something and believes the Serb’s hiring of Andy Murray as his coach is a big boost for Djokovic and the sport.

Djokovic will start the new season with Murray as his coach till the end of the Australian Open and then take a call on the longer-term nature of the partnership. And the former world No 8 Melzer believes that Murray has a lot to offer to the Serb.

“I think Djokovic/Murray are incredible. I think that’s extremely good for tennis,” Melzer said in an interview to Tennisnet. “A huge headline, but not only that: Murray can help Djokovic a lot. There are few who have such a high tennis IQ as Andy Murray. Even a Djokovic can still learn something. The question is: Who does the Nole listen to at all? And with Murray, he now has someone with whom he can discuss on an equal footing. And that can make this partnership very successful.”

“I believe that Novak Djokovic will play for all Grand Slam titles in 2025” – Melzer

Melzer added that Djokovic, now aged 37, will have to be smart about his training and his schedule but the Austrian opines that the Serb will be a force at all Grand Slams next year.

“Novak has to train differently and more intelligently than when he was 30. He can no longer drive this workload. He has to choose exactly the areas he wants to improve. A body at this age regenerates differently. But that’s exactly why he brought Murray on board. Because he has been through all this in recent years. And an Andy Murray can be a motivational boost. There can be a new joy that he brings to the pitch and to training. For Nole, it’s all about the Grand-Sams. If he loses earlier than usual on a 1000, then it won’t be so bad. I believe that Novak Djokovic will play for all Grand Slam titles in 2025,” Melzer said.
