Alcaraz to aim for third Barcelona Open glory in 2025
The world No 3 won the ATP 500 clay court event in 2022 and 2023
World No 3 Carlos Alcaraz has committed to the 2025 Barcelona Open, an ATP 500 event scheduled to be played on clay in April next year. Alcaraz has already championed the tournament twice in 2022 and 2023, meaning he will aim for a third glory there in 2025.
“I am very happy to play in Barcelona again and fight to get my third title,” Alcaraz told the tournament organisers recently. “It is a very special tournament for me, with a lot of history and it is played on courts that I have known very well since I was a child. In addition, having all the affection of the people in the stands makes it even more exciting.”
The Spaniard clinched his first trophy in Barcelona by defeating compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3, 6-2 in the 2022 final. He then defended his title in 2023, overcoming Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4 in the summit clash.
The four-time Grand Slam champion pulled out of the 2024 edition with a right arm injury.
