Wawrinka given Australian Open 2025 wildcard; Saville, Tomljanovic also enter main draw
The 2014 Melbourne Major champion will make his 19th main-draw appearance Down Under
Stan Wawrinka will compete at the 2025 Australian Open as the tournament organisers announced his entry into the main draw as a wildcard. Local heroes Daria Saville and Ajla Tomljanovic are among the nine wildcards to receive entry to the tournament.
Wawrinka, who conquered the Melbourne Major in 2014 to open his Grand Slam account, will make his 19th main-draw appearance Down Under.
The Swiss is joined by home favourites Tristan Schoolkate, Li Tu, and James Mccabe as wildcards in the men’s singles draw.
On the women’s side of business in Australia, former world No 20 Daria Saville and No 32 Ajla Tomljanovic, Emerson Jones, Talia Gibson, and Maya Joint will participate in the upcoming event as wildcards.
“I’m delighted to have another opportunity to compete in the main draw of the Australian Open,” Saville told Tennis Australia. I am incredibly motivated and working hard to make my way back inside the top 100 and back to my career high ranking of 20. The Australian summer is my favourite time of the year playing at home and hopefully it sets the tone for a strong 2025 season.”
