Pole Katarzyna Kawa defeated Brazilian Laura Pigossi, the No 5 seed, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of the MundoTenis Open on Thursday evening.
Kawa, ranked No 247, will play Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the top seed, next.
The Pole won against Brazilian wildcard Luiza Fullana (6-0, 6-1) in the previous round.
In the previous round, Pigossi, ranked No 163, won against Finnish qualifier Anastasia Kulikova (6-2, 6-2).
