Turkish player Celikbilek suffers brain haemorrhage during match
Celikbelik won two ATP Challenger titles in 2021 and peaked at No 140 in the world rankings
Turkish tennis player Altug Celikbilek collapsed mid-match during an ITF M25 event in Monastir, Tunisia and suffered a brain hemorrhage for which he is currently being treated in hospital.
The 28-year-old was playing the semi-final of the event against Yanki Erel when he collapsed early in the first set. He received immediate medical attention and was rushed to the hospital.
The Turkish Tennis Federation released a statement regarding his condition.
“The health condition of our national athlete Altug Celikbilek, who fell ill during a match at the M15 Monastir tournament held in Tunisia, is being closely monitored by our Federation and the Tunisian Embassy, and all necessary support is being provided to our athlete and his family. We wish our athlete a speedy recovery,” the Federation said in the statement.
