Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean, the No 8 seed, won against Russian Daria Lodikova 6-1, 7-6 (5) to move into the last 16 of the MundoTenis Open on Monday.
Jeanjean, ranked No 162, will face the winner of the match between Serb Nina Stojanovic and Brazilian wildcard Ana Candiotto next.
